About Spell Check
A spell check finds the words in your text that are not in a dictionary and offers corrections. This one is free, needs no sign-up and runs in your browser, so your text is not uploaded anywhere.
It checks spelling only. It does not look at grammar, punctuation or style, it only checks English words, and it uses an American English dictionary. That makes it good for catching typos in an email, essay, post or report, and the wrong tool for a sentence that is spelled right but reads badly.
Press Check spelling and each possible misspelling is listed once, with a count if it appears more than once and up to five suggestions. Click a suggestion to replace the word everywhere in your text, choose Ignore to skip it, or Add to dictionary to teach the checker a name or term.
How to use Spell Check
- Type or paste your English text into the box. Wait a moment on your first visit while the dictionary loads.
- Press Check spelling. The possible misspellings appear below the box, in the order they first appear in your text.
- Click a suggested word to replace every copy of the misspelling in your text, or choose Ignore to leave the word as it is for now.
- Choose Add to dictionary for a name, brand or technical term you use often. It is remembered in this browser.
- Press Check spelling again to confirm that nothing is left, then copy your corrected text.

Good to know
What this spell check does not do
It checks spelling, not grammar. "Their going home" is spelled correctly and is not flagged, because every word is in the dictionary. For grammar, read the text aloud or use a tool built for it.
It checks English only. Words in other languages and in scripts such as Bangla are skipped, and a Latin-letter word from another language is likely to be flagged.
It uses one American English dictionary, and you cannot switch it. British, Canadian and Australian spellings such as "colour" may be flagged. Use Ignore for a one-off, or Add to dictionary if you write that way all the time.
Why a correct word may be flagged
A dictionary cannot list every name, brand, abbreviation or new word, so a correctly spelled one may show up as a possible misspelling. The word list is the place to put them: choose Add to dictionary and it will not come up again in this browser.
Only the letters A to Z, with apostrophes inside a word, are checked. A word that contains an accented letter, such as "café", is split at the accent and the part before it may be flagged. Use Ignore for those. Numbers and symbols are skipped.
The checker compares words one by one and does not read the sentence. It cannot tell "there" from "their", or "form" from "from" when both are real words.
Privacy: how it works
- Your text is checked in your browser tab and is never sent to Ulkaa or to anyone else.
- The page downloads its dictionary files from this same site the first time you use it. That is a download to your device. Your text is not part of it.
- The text box and your personal word list are saved in your browser local storage. They stay on your device. Press Clear, or clear site data, to remove the text.
Tips
- Read your text once more after you click suggestions. A suggestion can be a real word that is the wrong one for your sentence.
- Add the names of people, places and products you write often to your dictionary, so the list stays short.
- Check one section at a time for a very long document, so you can read each list of flagged words carefully.
- Use Ignore for a word you want to leave alone in this document, and Add to dictionary for one you want accepted everywhere.

Is it really free?
Yes. There is no price, no trial and no credit card. Ulkaa Tool does the work with your own device, so there is no server bill to pass on to you.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up and no login. Open the page and use it. An Ulkaa account is not needed for anything on this tool.
Does it run in my browser?
Yes. Your text are processed by code running in your browser tab, on your own device.
Is my data uploaded?
No. Your text are never sent to Ulkaa or to anyone else. You can check this yourself by watching the Network tab in your browser developer tools while you use the tool.
Does it check grammar?
No. It checks spelling only. A sentence with a wrong but correctly spelled word, such as "their" for "there", will pass.
Which languages and dictionaries does it support?
English only, using an American English dictionary. There is no British or other dictionary to switch to.
Why is a British spelling like "colour" flagged?
The dictionary is American English, where the spelling is "color". Choose Ignore to skip it, or Add to dictionary to have it accepted every time in this browser.
What does Add to dictionary do?
It adds the word to a personal word list kept in your browser, so it is not flagged again on this site. It does not change the main dictionary, and it does not leave your device.
What is the difference between Ignore and Add to dictionary?
Ignore skips the word for this session only. Add to dictionary saves it in your browser so it is accepted in future sessions too.
Does it work offline or on very long text?
It needs to load the dictionary once from this site, so you need a connection for that. After it has loaded, checking happens on your device. A long text is checked in one pass in your browser, and a very large one may take a moment.
Does clicking a suggestion change every copy of the word?
Yes. It replaces every whole-word copy of that misspelling in your text, whatever the capitalisation. The replacement is inserted exactly as shown, so check its capital letters.
