About GPA Calculator
This GPA calculator works out a grade point average for Bangladesh SSC, HSC, Dakhil and Alim results on the 5.00 board scale, and for US high school and college courses on the 4.0 scale. It is free, needs no sign-up and runs in your browser, so your grades are never uploaded.
Use the tabs to pick your exam or school system. For the Bangladesh boards you choose a grade for each subject, or switch to entering marks and let the calculator find the grade. The optional 4th subject is handled the way it is commonly published: only the points above 2.00 are added, and the GPA is capped at 5.00. You see the GPA with and without the 4th subject side by side. For US courses you enter credits and letter grades, and high school mode shows weighted and unweighted GPA together.
The board result printed on your marksheet is the official one. The calculator is for checking, planning and understanding how the number is built.
How to use GPA Calculator
- Pick your system in the tabs: SSC, HSC, Dakhil, Alim, US high school or US college.
- For a Bangladesh exam, choose a grade for every subject. Add or remove rows to match your group, and count a two-paper subject such as Bangla or English once, with its combined grade. Or switch on marks entry and type the mark out of 100 for each subject.
- Switch the 4th subject on or off, and choose its grade. Only the points above 2.00 count towards the GPA.
- For US courses, enter the credits and the letter grade of each course. In high school mode also choose Regular, Honors or AP / IB for each course.
- Read the result. Bangladesh tabs show the GPA with and without the 4th subject and a letter grade. US tabs show the GPA, or the weighted and unweighted pair.
Features
- SSC, HSC, Dakhil and Alim on the 5.00 board scale, with the number of starting subject rows matching each exam and rows you can add or remove.
- 4th subject support: points above 2.00 are added, the GPA is capped at 5.00, and an F in the 4th subject does not make the GPA zero.
- GPA with and without the 4th subject shown together, and a letter grade for the result.
- The F rule: an F in any main subject makes the GPA 0.00.
- Marks entry: type a mark out of 100 and the calculator finds the grade and its points.
- GPA shown to two decimals without rounding up, the way the boards print it, so 4.996 shows as 4.99.
- US high school GPA, weighted (+0.5 Honors, +1.0 AP or IB) and unweighted, weighted by credits.
- US college GPA on the 4.0 scale or the 4.3 scale where A+ is 4.3, with typical Latin honors.
- Plus and minus letters and decimal credits for US courses.
How the GPA is calculated
Bangladesh boards: add the grade points of the main subjects and divide by the number of main subjects. A 4th subject adds its points above 2.00 to the total before the division. The result is capped at 5.00 and cut, not rounded, after two decimals.
US courses: multiply each course credits by its grade points, add the products, and divide by the total credits. Weighted high school GPA adds 0.5 for an Honors course and 1.0 for an AP or IB course, but not to an F.
GPA = (Σ main points + max(0, 4th subject point − 2.00)) ÷ number of main subjects
GPA = Σ(credit × point) ÷ Σ creditWorked examples
Nine main subjects: A+, A+, A+, A, A, A+, A-, A+, B gives Points total 39.5, GPA = 39.5 ÷ 9 = 4.39 exact, shown as 4.38 (letter A)
A rounded calculator would show 4.39. The calculator cuts to 4.38 as the boards print it.
The same subjects plus a 4th subject graded A (4.00) gives Bonus = 4.00 − 2.00 = 2.00, GPA = (39.5 + 2) ÷ 9 = 4.61
US high school, 1 credit each: AP A, Honors A-, B+, A, Honors B, AP B+ gives Weighted 4.05, unweighted 3.55
SSC and HSC grading scale (5.00)
| Letter | Grade point | Marks (%) |
|---|---|---|
| A+ | 5.00 | 80 to 100 |
| A | 4.00 | 70 to 79 |
| A- | 3.50 | 60 to 69 |
| B | 3.00 | 50 to 59 |
| C | 2.00 | 40 to 49 |
| D | 1.00 | 33 to 39 |
| F | 0.00 | 0 to 32 |

About the 4th subject rule
The rule used here is the commonly published one: the points above 2.00 of the 4th subject are added to the main total, the sum is divided by the number of main subjects, and the result is capped at 5.00. The board official result is final, and the marksheet GPA already includes the 4th subject where one was taken, so check which figure a form asks for.
What the calculator does not do
When you enter marks it uses the total mark of a subject only. Boards also require a pass in each part of a subject, such as written, MCQ or practical, and this does not check that.
It does not save your work and does not convert between scales by itself. High school bonuses are fixed at +0.5 and +1.0, although schools differ.
Privacy: how it works
- Subjects, marks, grades and credits are processed by code in your browser tab. Nothing is sent to Ulkaa or anyone else, and nothing is stored, so closing the tab clears the page.
Tips
- If a university asks for your GPA, quote the figure printed on your marksheet and use this page to understand it.
- Count a two-paper subject once, with its combined grade, so the number of main subjects matches the board.
- In US high school mode, check whether your school caps weighted GPA at 5.0 or weights only some grades, and adjust your reading of the result.
Frequently asked questions
Is it really free?
Yes. There is no price, no trial and no credit card. Ulkaa Tool does the work with your own device, so there is no server bill to pass on to you.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up and no login. Open the page and use it. An Ulkaa account is not needed for anything on this tool.
Does it run in my browser?
Yes. Your grades are processed by code running in your browser tab, on your own device.
Is my data uploaded?
No. Your grades are never sent to Ulkaa or to anyone else. You can check this yourself by watching the Network tab in your browser developer tools while you use the tool.
How is the 4th subject counted in HSC GPA?
In the commonly published rule, only the points above 2.00 are added to the main total before dividing by the number of main subjects, and the GPA is capped at 5.00. A 4th subject with 2.00 or less adds nothing.
How do I calculate SSC GPA?
Add the grade points of the main subjects and divide by their number. A+ is 5.00, A is 4.00, A- is 3.50, B is 3.00, C is 2.00, D is 1.00 and F is 0.00. Then add any 4th subject points above 2.00 to the total first.
Why does my result show 4.99 and not 5.00?
The calculator cuts after two decimals as the boards print results, so 4.996 shows as 4.99. A rounded figure would show 5.00 for a result the board would not award.
What happens if I get F in one subject?
An F in any main subject makes the GPA 0.00. An F in the 4th subject does not fail you and adds no points.
How do I calculate weighted GPA?
Add 0.5 to the grade points of an Honors course and 1.0 to an AP or IB course, multiply by credits, add and divide by total credits. The calculator does this and also shows the unweighted GPA.
What is a good GPA in the US?
It depends on the school and goal. On a 4.0 scale, 3.0 is a B average. Many competitive programs look for higher, and the answer varies by program and year.
Is GPA 5.00 the same as 4.0?
No. Bangladesh SSC and HSC use a 5.00 maximum and US schools use 4.0. The two are separate scales and a conversion is only an estimate.
Is the result official?
No. The marksheet or transcript issued by your board or school is final.
