About American English Spell Checker
This spell checker uses an American English Hunspell dictionary, so "color", "center" and "organize" are accepted and the British forms "colour", "centre" and "organise" are likely to be flagged. Paste your text and press Check spelling to see the words that are not in the dictionary. It is free, needs no sign-up and runs in your browser, so nothing you enter is uploaded.
It is a good match for text that must follow US spelling, such as a US school essay, an American business email, a US-facing website or a US publication. It checks spelling only, not grammar, so it will not catch a correctly spelled wrong word.
Names, brands and technical terms are often flagged because they are not in a general dictionary. Choose Add to dictionary to keep them from coming up again in this browser, or Ignore to skip them once.

Privacy: how it works
- Your text is checked in your browser tab and is never sent to Ulkaa or to anyone else.
- The page downloads its dictionary files from this same site the first time you use it. That is a download to your device. Your text is not part of it.
- The text box and your personal word list are saved in your browser local storage. They stay on your device. Press Clear, or clear site data, to remove the text.
Tips
- Read your text once more after you click suggestions. A suggestion can be a real word that is the wrong one for your sentence.
- Add the names of people, places and products you write often to your dictionary, so the list stays short.
- Check one section at a time for a very long document, so you can read each list of flagged words carefully.
- Use Ignore for a word you want to leave alone in this document, and Add to dictionary for one you want accepted everywhere.
