About CGPA Calculator
This CGPA calculator works out your cumulative grade point average from your courses, their credits and your grades. It is free, needs no sign-up and runs in your browser, so nothing you type is uploaded.
Pick a grading scale, add one row per course with its credit and grade, and the result updates as you type. There is no Calculate button. The scale list covers the Bangladesh UGC 4.00 scale, a common private-university scale, US 4.0 and 4.3, the India 10-point scale, ECTS and UK percentage marks. If your university uses something else, a custom scale lets you type in the letters and points from your own transcript legend.
The same page converts a CGPA to a percentage, a percentage back to a CGPA, and a CGPA to a German grade with the modified Bavarian formula. A target planner tells you what average you need over the credits you have left. Every result is a calculation from the grades you enter. Your university transcript is the official figure.
How to use CGPA Calculator
- Choose your grading scale from the list. The table of letters and points for that scale is used for every course row. Pick Custom scale if your university uses its own table.
- Enter each course with its credit hours and grade. Choose a letter from the list, or pick Type point to enter a grade point yourself.
- Add or remove rows until the list matches your semester. Credits can be decimals such as 1.5.
- To get a cumulative result, switch on Add previous CGPA and enter your CGPA so far and the credits it covers. The new CGPA weights both by credit.
- Read the term GPA, the cumulative CGPA, the degree class where the scale has one, and the percentage, German grade and US 4.0 estimate.
- Use the target planner to enter the CGPA you want and the credits you have left. It shows the average you need.
Features
- Credit-weighted CGPA that updates on every keystroke, with no submit button.
- Nine scale options: Bangladesh UGC 4.00, a common private-university scale, US 4.0, US 4.3, India 10-point, ECTS, UK percentage, Bangladesh SSC/HSC 5.00 and a custom scale.
- A custom scale editor for the letters, points, top grade and lowest pass of your own university.
- Previous CGPA and completed credits, so a new semester updates your cumulative result.
- Degree class where the scale defines one, such as First, Second and Third class on the UGC scale, Latin honors on US 4.0, or UK honours bands.
- CGPA to percentage with the formula that fits the scale: grade band, linear, CBSE 9.5, times 10, or your own multiplier.
- Percentage to CGPA, the reverse conversion, with the same formula choices.
- German grade by the modified Bavarian formula, with three rounding modes: cut after one decimal, round to one decimal, or nearest German grade step.
- A US 4.0 estimate for scales that are not already 4.0, and a target CGPA planner.
The CGPA formula
CGPA is the sum of credit times grade point for every course, divided by the sum of the credits. The same formula gives a term GPA when you use one semester and a CGPA when you use all of them. A failed course still counts its credits in the divisor with 0.00 points.
To add a new term to an earlier result, weight the old CGPA by the credits it covers: new CGPA = (old CGPA x old credits + new term points) / (old credits + new credits). A plain average of semester GPAs is only correct when every semester has the same credits.
CGPA = Σ(credit × grade point) ÷ Σ creditWorked examples
Bangladesh UGC scale: 3 credits, A; 3 credits, B+; 4 credits, A-; 3 credits, B; 2 credits, A+ gives Σ(credit × point) = 52, credits = 15, CGPA = 3.47
A is 3.75, B+ is 3.25, A- is 3.50, B is 3.00 and A+ is 4.00 on the UGC table.
US 4.0 scale: 4 credits, A-; 3 credits, B+; 3 credits, B; 2 credits, A gives Σ(credit × point) = 41.7, credits = 12, CGPA = 3.48
A- is 3.7, B+ is 3.3, B is 3.0 and A is 4.0.
Previous CGPA 3.40 over 60 credits, then a term of 15 credits at 3.70 and 3 credits at 3.25 gives New CGPA = 3.45 over 78 credits
The old result carries 60 credits, so it moves slowly.
India 10-point scale: CGPA 7.5 with the CBSE formula gives 7.5 × 9.5 = 71.25 percent
Bangladesh UGC grading scale (4.00)
| Letter | Grade point | Marks (%) |
|---|---|---|
| A+ | 4.00 | 80 to 100 |
| A | 3.75 | 75 to 79 |
| A- | 3.50 | 70 to 74 |
| B+ | 3.25 | 65 to 69 |
| B | 3.00 | 60 to 64 |
| B- | 2.75 | 55 to 59 |
| C+ | 2.50 | 50 to 54 |
| C | 2.25 | 45 to 49 |
| D | 2.00 | 40 to 44 |
| F | 0.00 | 0 to 39 |
Good to know
Which scale should you pick?
Use the table printed on your transcript or in your university grading policy. Public universities in Bangladesh commonly publish the UGC 4.00 table, while many private universities publish their own, so the same letter can carry different points at different universities.
If your table is not in the list, choose Custom scale and type it in. The calculator will use your points for every result.
What this calculator does not do
It does not handle course retakes by itself. If your university replaces the old grade, remove the old row. If it averages them, keep both rows.
It does not save your work and has no sharing link. Results are estimates built from what you type, and a university or an employer may round or convert differently.
Privacy: how it works
- Courses, credits and grades are handled by code running in your browser tab. Nothing is sent to Ulkaa or anyone else, and nothing is saved: closing the tab clears what you typed.
Tips
- Use the credit hours from your transcript, not the number of courses. A 1-credit lab counts a third as much as a 3-credit lecture.
- To enter a whole semester you only know as a GPA, add one row with that semester credits and choose Type point for its grade point.
- For a conversion to percentage, check which formula your university or the receiving organisation accepts before you quote the number.
Frequently asked questions
Is it really free?
Yes. There is no price, no trial and no credit card. Ulkaa Tool does the work with your own device, so there is no server bill to pass on to you.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up and no login. Open the page and use it. An Ulkaa account is not needed for anything on this tool.
Does it run in my browser?
Yes. Your grades are processed by code running in your browser tab, on your own device.
Is my data uploaded?
No. Your grades are never sent to Ulkaa or to anyone else. You can check this yourself by watching the Network tab in your browser developer tools while you use the tool.
How do I calculate CGPA?
Multiply each course credit by its grade point, add the products, and divide by the total credits. For example, a 3-credit A (3.75) and a 3-credit B (3.00) give (11.25 + 9.00) / 6 = 3.38 on the UGC scale.
How do I calculate CGPA from SGPA?
Weight each semester GPA by its credits, add them, and divide by the total credits. Switch on Add previous CGPA, enter the CGPA so far and its credits, then add the new term. Averaging semester GPAs without credits is only right when every semester has equal credits.
What is the difference between GPA and CGPA?
GPA covers one term or one set of courses. CGPA covers everything you have completed so far. Both use the same credit-weighted formula.
Is 3.00 CGPA first class in Bangladesh?
On the commonly published UGC cut-offs, 3.00 to 4.00 is First class, 2.25 to under 3.00 is Second class and 2.00 to under 2.25 is Third class. Each university sets its own rule, so check your syllabus.
How do I convert CGPA to percentage?
There is no single rule. On the India 10-point scale CBSE multiplies by 9.5, so 7.5 becomes 71.25 percent. Other universities multiply by 10 or use their own formula. The calculator offers each method and a custom multiplier.
Does the calculator handle ECTS or UK grades?
Yes, both are in the scale list. ECTS letters are relative to a cohort, so any point conversion is an estimate. UK module marks are out of 100 and you enter them with Type point.
Can I use my own university grading table?
Yes. Pick Custom scale and enter your letters and points, the top grade and the lowest pass. The result then follows your table.
Is the result official?
No. It is a calculation from the grades you enter. Your university transcript, grade sheet or registrar result is final.
