About Rich Text Editor
A rich text editor lets you format as you write, without learning any markup. Select text and use the toolbar for bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, headings, quotes, lists and links, with undo and redo. It is free, needs no sign-up and runs in your browser, so nothing you enter is uploaded.
Two heading levels, a paragraph style and block quotes are on the toolbar, together with bullet and numbered lists and a link button that asks for the address. Clear formatting strips the styles from the selected text, which is handy after you paste from a web page or a Word file.
The View HTML button shows the markup of your document and copies it, for pasting into a CMS or an email template. Download .html saves the markup as a file, and Download .txt saves the text with the formatting removed.
It does not offer tables, images, fonts, colours or page layout, and it does not read Markdown. The editing uses your browser built-in commands, so pasted formatting can differ a little between browsers. Your document is saved in this browser as you type and is never uploaded.
How to use Rich Text Editor
- Choose a mode: rich text (this page), Online Notepad for plain text, or Markdown Editor for Markdown with a preview.
- Type or paste your text. It is saved in this browser automatically, so a refresh or a closed tab does not lose it.
- In rich text, select words and use the toolbar for bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, headings, quotes, lists, links, undo and redo.
- In the notepad and Markdown modes, use Find and Replace above the box to change a word everywhere, with an optional Match case.
- Use the Download button to save a file, or View HTML in rich text to copy the markup. Clear empties the editor.

Privacy: how it works
- The editor runs in your browser tab. What you write is not sent to Ulkaa or to any other server.
- Your text is saved in your browser local storage, which is how the autosave works. It stays on your device, and it is only there for this browser and this site. Press Clear, or clear site data, to remove it. Anyone with access to your browser profile can read it, so do not leave private notes on a shared computer.
Tips
- Download a copy of anything important. Autosave is a convenience, not a backup.
- Use Clear formatting after pasting from a web page or a Word file to drop styles you do not want.
- Use Find and Replace with Match case on when a word differs only by capitals, such as "US" and "us".
- Keep each mode for one purpose, so you always know where a note is.

Is it really free?
Yes. There is no price, no trial and no credit card. Ulkaa Tool does the work with your own device, so there is no server bill to pass on to you.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up and no login. Open the page and use it. An Ulkaa account is not needed for anything on this tool.
Does it run in my browser?
Yes. Your text are processed by code running in your browser tab, on your own device.
Is my data uploaded?
No. Your text are never sent to Ulkaa or to anyone else. You can check this yourself by watching the Network tab in your browser developer tools while you use the tool.
Can I get the HTML of what I wrote?
Yes. Open View HTML to see and copy the markup, or press Download .html to save it as a file.
What formatting is available?
Bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, heading 1 and 2, paragraph, quote, bullet and numbered lists, links and clear formatting, plus undo and redo.
Can I add images or tables?
No. This editor is for text with basic formatting. It does not insert images or tables.
