About Online Notepad
An online notepad is a plain text box you can open anywhere and type into. This one saves your notes in your browser as you type, shows a live word and character count, and downloads the notes as a .txt file. It is free, needs no sign-up and runs in your browser, so nothing you enter is uploaded.
There is no formatting to manage: no fonts, no toolbar, no page. That makes it a good place for a to-do list, a draft you will paste elsewhere, a snippet you need to keep for a minute or a list of names. The box uses a monospaced font so columns of text line up.
Above the box is a Find and Replace bar. Type what to find and what to put in its place, tick Match case if capitals matter, and press Replace all. The tool tells you how many replacements it made, and the change is saved with the rest of your text.
Your notes are stored in this browser on this device, not in an account, so they do not appear on your phone or another computer, and they are lost if you clear site data. Download a .txt copy of anything that matters.
How to use Online Notepad
- Choose a mode: rich text (this page), Online Notepad for plain text, or Markdown Editor for Markdown with a preview.
- Type or paste your text. It is saved in this browser automatically, so a refresh or a closed tab does not lose it.
- In rich text, select words and use the toolbar for bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, headings, quotes, lists, links, undo and redo.
- In the notepad and Markdown modes, use Find and Replace above the box to change a word everywhere, with an optional Match case.
- Use the Download button to save a file, or View HTML in rich text to copy the markup. Clear empties the editor.

Worked examples
Find "us" with Match case off, replace with "we", in: Us and us, US gives we and we, we (3 replaced)
With Match case on, only the exact "us" changes, giving: Us and we, US (1 replaced).
Privacy: how it works
- The editor runs in your browser tab. What you write is not sent to Ulkaa or to any other server.
- Your text is saved in your browser local storage, which is how the autosave works. It stays on your device, and it is only there for this browser and this site. Press Clear, or clear site data, to remove it. Anyone with access to your browser profile can read it, so do not leave private notes on a shared computer.
Tips
- Download a copy of anything important. Autosave is a convenience, not a backup.
- Use Clear formatting after pasting from a web page or a Word file to drop styles you do not want.
- Use Find and Replace with Match case on when a word differs only by capitals, such as "US" and "us".
- Keep each mode for one purpose, so you always know where a note is.
