About Simplify Fractions Calculator
This calculator reduces a fraction to its simplest form. Enter 12/18 and it finds that the greatest common divisor is 6, then divides the top and bottom by 6 to get 2/3. It is free, needs no sign-up and runs in your browser, so nothing you enter is uploaded.
A fraction is in lowest terms when the numerator and denominator share no factor other than 1. The fastest route is one division by the greatest common divisor, rather than repeatedly halving or dividing by small primes. When the GCD is 1, as with 8/15, the calculator tells you the fraction is already in lowest terms.
A negative fraction keeps its sign, so −24/36 simplifies to −2/3. The decimal and percent of a fraction do not change when you simplify, because 12/18 and 2/3 are the same number.

GCD(45, 60) = 15. 45 ÷ 15 = 3 and 60 ÷ 15 = 4.
17/51 gives 1/3
GCD(17, 51) = 17, so the fraction reduces to 1/3.

Tips
- Write a mixed number with a single space between the whole part and the fraction, as in 1 3/4.
- A decimal such as 0.75 is accepted as an input anywhere a fraction is.
- If you want a rounded decimal for a calculation by hand, read it from the repeating form and cut it where you need.
- To check an answer, the Compare mode shows two fractions over one denominator, which is the same test teachers use.

How do I simplify a fraction?
Find the greatest common divisor of the numerator and the denominator and divide both by it.
How do I know a fraction is fully simplified?
When the GCD of the numerator and denominator is 1. For example, 8/15 has no common factor, so it cannot be reduced.
