About Divide Fractions Calculator
This calculator divides fractions. Enter 3/4 and 2/5 and it rewrites the division as 3/4 × 5/2, multiplies across and returns 15/8, which is 1 7/8 or 1.875. It is free, needs no sign-up and runs in your browser, so nothing you enter is uploaded.
Dividing by a fraction means multiplying by its reciprocal, the fraction turned upside down. Dividing by 2/5 asks how many pieces of size 2/5 fit into the first number, and each whole holds 5/2 of them, so the answer is the first fraction times 5/2.
You cannot divide by zero, so a second fraction of 0 gives an error message. If the second fraction is negative, the sign carries to the answer. Mixed numbers are converted first: 1 1/2 ÷ 3/4 is 3/2 × 4/3 = 12/6 = 2.

3/4 × 5/2 = (3 × 5) / (4 × 2) = 15/8. As a decimal this is 1.875.
1 1/2 ÷ 3/4 gives 2
3/2 × 4/3 = 12/6, and the GCD of 12 and 6 is 6, so the answer is 2.

Tips
- Write a mixed number with a single space between the whole part and the fraction, as in 1 3/4.

- If you want a rounded decimal for a calculation by hand, read it from the repeating form and cut it where you need.

How do I divide fractions?
Flip the second fraction and multiply. 3/4 ÷ 2/5 becomes 3/4 × 5/2 = 15/8.
What is the reciprocal of a whole number?
Write the number over 1 and flip it. The reciprocal of 4 is 1/4, so dividing by 4 is multiplying by 1/4.
