About Unit Converter
Unit Converter is a free tool that runs in your browser with no sign-up, so nothing you type is uploaded. It converts between 102 units in 15 groups: length, weight, temperature, volume, area, angle, speed, time, frequency, data, data rate, pressure, energy, power and fuel economy.
Pick a group, type a value, choose the unit you have and the unit you want, and the answer appears as you type. Below the result you see the formula that was used, the factor in both directions and a chart of common values for the pair you picked, so you can check the number by hand or find a nearby value without typing again.
The converter covers the pairs people search for most, such as centimeters to inches, kilograms to pounds, kilometers to miles and Celsius to Fahrenheit. It also includes the land units used in Bangladesh (decimal, katha and bigha), which most general converters leave out. Each of those has a stated assumption, because katha and bigha sizes differ between districts.
Conversions use exact definitions where they exist. An inch is exactly 2.54 cm, a pound is exactly 0.45359237 kg and a US gallon is exactly 3.785411784 liters, so the factors you see are not rounded approximations of rounded approximations.
How to use Unit Converter
- Choose a group such as Length or Temperature from the Quantity picker. It opens on a worked conversion.
- Type the value you want to convert in the From box. Decimals and negative numbers are fine.
- Pick the unit you have in the From list and the unit you want in the To list. The swap button reverses the pair.
- Read the result in the result card, and use the copy button to put it on your clipboard.
- Set Precision to Auto, or to a fixed number of decimals from 0 to 10, if you need a specific rounding.
- Check the formula line and the chart of common values under the result when you want to see how the number was reached.
Features
- 102 units in 15 groups, from nanometers and light-years to square miles, and from bits to tebibytes. It includes milligrams, UK gallons and pints, cubic meters, feet and inches, degrees and radians, hertz and rpm, and bits per second to MB/s.
- Results update as you type, with a swap button to reverse the pair.
- Precision control: Auto (up to 8 significant digits) or 0 to 10 fixed decimals.
- A copy button for the result.
- The formula and the factor in both directions, shown under the result.
- A chart of common values (1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 25, 50, 75, 100, 250, 500 and 1,000) for the pair you chose.
- Temperature handled with proper offset formulas, plus the UK gas mark oven table.
- Fuel economy handled as an inverse, so US and UK miles per gallon and liters per 100 km convert correctly.
- Bangladesh land units: decimal (shotangsho), katha and bigha.
- Both decimal data units (KB, MB, GB, TB) and binary ones (KiB, MiB, GiB, TiB), clearly labeled.
How the converter calculates
Most units are linear. The converter turns your value into the base unit of its group (meter, kilogram, milliliter, square meter, meter per second, second, byte, joule, watt) and then into the unit you chose. For a linear pair the whole thing reduces to one factor: result = value × factor.
Temperature is different, because the scales do not share a zero point. Celsius to Fahrenheit multiplies by 9/5 and then adds 32, and Celsius to Kelvin only adds 273.15. Gas mark is a lookup table, with straight-line interpolation between marks.
Fuel economy between miles per gallon and liters per 100 km is an inverse: you divide a constant by the value (235.2146 for US gallons) instead of multiplying.
linear: result = value × factor
C to F: °F = °C × 9/5 + 32
F to C: °C = (°F − 32) × 5/9
C to K: K = °C + 273.15
mpg to L/100 km: L/100 km = 235.2146 ÷ mpgWorked examples
70 kg to pounds gives 154.3236 lbs
70 × 2.2046226 = 154.3236, rounded for display.
25°C to Fahrenheit gives 77°F
25 × 9/5 + 32 = 77.
10 km to miles gives 6.213712 mi
10 × 0.62137119 = 6.2137119.
5 katha to square feet gives 3,600 sq ft
Using 720 sq ft per katha.
1 GiB to megabytes gives 1,073.742 MB
1 GiB is 1,073,741,824 bytes; 1 MB is 1,000,000 bytes.

Assumptions behind the numbers
A year is 365 days, a week is 7 days, and months are not offered because their length varies. Miles per gallon uses the US gallon, and UK mpg uses the imperial gallon. The calorie is the thermochemical calorie, exactly 4.184 J, and a kilocalorie is 4,184 J. Horsepower is the mechanical horsepower of about 745.7 W.
Teaspoons, tablespoons, fluid ounces, cups, quarts and gallons are US customary units. UK gallons and pints are offered separately and are larger (an imperial gallon is 4.546 L, against 3.785 L), so a figure from a British recipe or fuel receipt needs the right unit.
Gas mark is a published oven table, and values between marks are interpolated. Fan ovens often need about 20°C less; this converter does not adjust for that.
Bangladesh land units vary by district
One decimal (shotangsho) is one hundredth of an acre, 435.6 sq ft, which is the same everywhere. Katha and bigha are not national standards. This converter uses 720 sq ft per katha and 20 katha per bigha, the common value in and around Dhaka.
In some districts the katha is closer to 1.5 to 1.65 decimal, and the bigha differs too. For a sale, a deed or a survey, use the area written in the deed or the khatian, not a converted figure.
Decimal and binary data units
MB, GB and TB follow the SI prefixes, so each step is 1,000. MiB, GiB and TiB are powers of 1,024. A drive sold as 500 GB holds 500 billion bytes, which software using 1,024-based units shows as about 465.7 GiB, which is why a new drive looks smaller than its label.
Privacy: how it works
- Every conversion is calculated by code running in your browser tab. The values you type are never sent to Ulkaa or anyone else, and nothing is stored.
- There is no account and no sign-up for this tool, and it costs nothing to use.
Tips
- Use the swap button instead of retyping when you need the reverse conversion.
- For a quick mental check, round the factor: 1 inch is about 2.5 cm, 1 kg is about 2.2 lbs, 1 mile is about 1.6 km.
- Set Precision to 2 decimals for cooking, shopping and travel, and to 6 or more for engineering work.
- Check whether a figure uses US or imperial units before converting volumes, gallons and miles per gallon.
- For land, convert for a rough size, then confirm the area from the deed or survey record.
Frequently asked questions
Is it really free?
Yes. There is no price, no trial and no credit card. Ulkaa Tool does the work with your own device, so there is no server bill to pass on to you.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up and no login. Open the page and use it. An Ulkaa account is not needed for anything on this tool.
Does it run in my browser?
Yes. Your values are processed by code running in your browser tab, on your own device.
Is my data uploaded?
No. Your values are never sent to Ulkaa or to anyone else. You can check this yourself by watching the Network tab in your browser developer tools while you use the tool.
How do I convert cm to inches?
Divide the centimeters by 2.54, or multiply by 0.393701. For example, 170 cm ÷ 2.54 = 66.93 inches.
How many pounds are in a kilogram?
One kilogram is 2.204623 pounds. To convert, multiply the kilograms by 2.20462.
How do I convert Celsius to Fahrenheit?
Multiply the Celsius value by 9/5 (1.8) and add 32. So 25°C is 25 × 1.8 + 32 = 77°F.
Is a gigabyte 1,000 or 1,024 megabytes?
Here GB is 1,000 MB, the SI meaning. The 1,024-based unit is the gibibyte (GiB), which is 1,024 MiB. Both are in the converter, so you can match whichever your device uses.
How many square feet is a katha?
This converter uses 720 square feet per katha, the usual value in Dhaka. Katha sizes differ in some districts, so confirm with your deed.
How many decimal is an acre?
An acre is exactly 100 decimal (shotangsho), or 43,560 sq ft, because a decimal is one hundredth of an acre.
Are the gallons US or UK?
US gallons, and US miles per gallon. A UK (imperial) gallon is about 20 percent bigger, so a UK mpg figure is higher than the US figure for the same car.
Does it convert gas marks?
Yes, between gas marks, Celsius and Fahrenheit. It uses the standard oven table and interpolates between marks, and it does not adjust for fan ovens.
