About JSON to CSV Converter

This JSON to CSV converter turns a JSON array of objects into CSV, with one row per object and one column per key. Use it for quick conversions of an API response or a small export. It is free, needs no sign-up and runs in your browser, so nothing you enter is uploaded.

Paste the JSON and choose To CSV. The header row is the union of all keys found in any object, in the order they first appear. An object that lacks a key gets an empty cell. Values that contain a comma, a double quote or a line break are wrapped in quotes, with inner quotes doubled, as the CSV format requires. Press Download to save data.csv.

Nested values are not flattened. An array or an object inside a row is written into its cell as JSON text, so {"tags":["a","b"]} gives a cell holding ["a","b"]. A single object becomes one row. A list of plain values such as [1,2] becomes a single column named value.

This page suits small and medium inputs. For larger files, or when you want a file converted without pasting, the dedicated converter at /file/converter/data/json-to-csv in the File tools handles bigger files. Both run in your browser.

How to use JSON to CSV Converter

  1. 1Paste your JSON into the box. The tool checks it as you type and shows Valid JSON or the error.
  2. 2Choose a tab: Format to pretty-print, Minify to remove whitespace, Validate to check only, Sort keys to order the keys, Tree to browse, Escape to make or read a JSON string, or To CSV for a table.
  3. 3For Format and Sort keys, choose the indent: 2 spaces, 4 spaces or Tab.
  4. 4If you see Invalid JSON at line and column, go to that position. For a common mistake, press Auto-fix and check the result.
  5. 5In Tree, open and close branches, and click a key to copy its JSON path, such as $.users[0].name.
  6. 6Use Copy to take the output, or Download to save it as a .json file (a .csv file for To CSV).

Features

  • Pretty-print with 2 spaces, 4 spaces or tabs.
  • Minify to a single line with no extra whitespace.
  • Validation that reports the line, the column and a plain-English message for the first error.
  • Auto-fix for single quotes, unquoted keys, trailing commas and comments. The button only appears when the repaired text is valid.
  • Tree view with collapsible branches, item counts and one-click copy of the JSON path of any key.
  • Sort keys alphabetically at every level, without changing array order.
  • Escape and unescape a JSON string. Unescape reads Unicode escapes, including emoji pairs.
  • JSON to CSV for an array of objects, with the union of all keys as the header.
  • Copy and Download of the result.
  • All processing happens in your browser tab, with no server round trip.

Worked examples

  • [{"id":1,"name":"Ada","city":"London"},{"id":2,"name":"Grace","city":"New York"},{"id":3,"name":"Linus"}] → gives id,name,city 1,Ada,London 2,Grace,New York 3,Linus,

The third object has no city, so its last cell is empty.

  • [{"id":1,"name":"Ada","tags":["a","b"]},{"id":2,"name":"Lin, Wei","email":"[email protected]"}] → gives id,name,tags,email 1,Ada,"[""a"",""b""]", 2,"Lin, Wei",,[email protected]

The array is kept as JSON text in its cell, and the name with a comma is quoted.

  • [1,2] → gives value 1 2

Privacy: how it works

  • Your JSON is processed by code in your browser tab. Nothing is sent to Ulkaa or to any other server, which you can confirm in the Network tab of your browser developer tools.
  • API responses, config files and database exports often contain tokens, emails and personal data, so a formatter that does not upload them is the safe kind to paste into.

Tips

  • Fix the first error only, then look again. Later errors often vanish, because one missing quote can make everything after it look wrong.
  • Sort the keys of two JSON files with the same settings before you compare them. A text diff then shows only the real differences.
  • Use the Tree view to find a path, then copy it. That is quicker than counting brackets in a long response.
  • To put text with quotes and line breaks into a JSON field, paste it in Escape and copy the result between the quotation marks.

Is my data uploaded?

No. Your JSON are never sent to Ulkaa or to anyone else. You can check this yourself by watching the Network tab in your browser developer tools while you use the tool.

How do I convert JSON to CSV?

Paste a JSON array of objects, choose To CSV, then Copy or Download. Each object becomes a row and the keys become the header.

What happens to nested objects and arrays?

They are not flattened. They appear in their cell as JSON text. Flatten the data first if you need one column per nested field.

What if the objects have different keys?

The header contains every key found in any object. Objects without a key get an empty cell in that column.

Will Excel open the CSV correctly?

Yes for ordinary data. The file is plain UTF-8 text with comma separators. If Excel misreads accented letters, import it as UTF-8 text instead of double-clicking the file.
