This pyramid volume calculator uses V = ⅓lwh for a rectangular base and adds the four triangular faces to the base for the total surface area. Enter the same value twice for a square base. It is free, needs no sign-up and runs in your browser, so nothing you enter is uploaded.
A square pyramid with base 8 and height 12 has a volume of 256.

Tips
- Use the inside dimensions when you want the capacity of a container, and the outside ones for the space it takes up.
- For a pyramid with a square base, enter the same number for length and width.
- A capsule is a cylinder with a hemisphere on each end. Enter the cylinder length only, not the overall length.
- To fill a tank to part of its height, enter that height instead of the full height.

No. It is the perpendicular height from the base to the apex.
Does the apex have to be over the centre?
The volume formula holds for any apex height. The surface area here assumes a right pyramid, with the apex over the centre.
