Convert M4A to MP3 free: no sign-up, no upload
Convert M4A to MP3 free. There is no sign-up or login, no watermark, and nothing is uploaded, because your files never leave your browser. It turns M4A audio, such as iPhone voice memos and iTunes purchases, into MP3 files that play on almost any device.
M4A is the audio-only form of MP4, normally holding AAC sound. It is what Apple devices save for voice memos and what many music downloads use. Some older players, car stereos, car radios and web forms still want MP3, so people convert.
Both formats are lossy. Moving from M4A to MP3 therefore re-compresses already compressed audio, which can cost a little quality. For speech the difference is rarely noticeable. This pair normally runs with your browser built-in tools and needs no engine download.

About the formats
About M4A
M4A is an MPEG-4 audio container, usually with AAC audio, and sometimes with the lossless Apple codec ALAC. AAC generally gives better quality than MP3 at the same size.
About MP3
MP3 is the most universally supported audio format. That compatibility is the reason to convert, even though AAC is the more efficient codec.
M4A vs MP3
At similar bitrates AAC in M4A usually sounds a little better than MP3, but MP3 plays in more places. If your device plays M4A, there is little reason to convert. Convert only when something refuses it.
Privacy: how it works
- Your audio files stay on your device. The page reads each file with the browser's file API, converts it with code running in the tab, and hands the result back as a download. No upload happens, so there is no copy of your file on our servers to protect, delete or leak.
- There is nothing to sign up for and no login. The converter does not ask for an email address, and it does not need to know who you are to do its job.
- You can check the claim yourself: open your browser developer tools, watch the Network tab while a file converts, and you will see no request that carries your file.
- Voice memos and recordings often hold private conversations. They are converted on your device only.
Tips
- Convert only if a device or site rejects M4A, because the conversion can slightly reduce quality.
- Choose a higher quality when converting music, and a lower one for speech.
- Lossless ALAC files become lossy when converted to MP3, so keep the originals.
- Check one file in your player before converting a whole library.
- DRM-protected purchases cannot be converted, since they cannot be read by the browser.
- Tags and cover art may not carry over, so check them after converting.
Frequently asked questions
Is it really free?
Yes. There is no price, no trial, no credit card and no watermark added to your results. Ulkaa Tool does the conversion with your own device, so there is no server bill to pass on to you.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Your audio files are read and converted inside your browser and are never sent to Ulkaa or to anyone else. The result is created on your device and you save it from there.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up and no login. Open the page, add your files and convert. An Ulkaa account is not needed for anything on this tool.
Is there a file size limit?
No limit is set by us. The real limit is your device: the conversion uses your own memory and processor, so very large files can be slow or fail on a weak phone or an older computer. Close other heavy tabs and convert audio files one at a time if a big batch struggles.
