About Flashcard-Style Quiz Maker
This flashcard-style quiz maker opens on the short answer type: write a prompt on one side, the accepted answer on the other, and the quiz asks you to type the answer from memory. It is free, needs no sign-up and runs in your browser, so nothing you enter is uploaded.
It is not a deck of flip cards. You do not turn a card over and mark yourself, because the quiz checks what you type. The check ignores case, accents and punctuation, so Paris, paris and PARIS! all match. To accept several forms, separate them with a vertical bar, for example USA | United States | US.
This works well for vocabulary, definitions, dates and formulas, where the answer is short and unambiguous. For answers that can be phrased many ways, add the common phrasings after the bar, or use multiple choice instead. A wrong answer is marked after you submit, and Try again replays the quiz.
How to use Flashcard-Style Quiz Maker
- Write a question in the first box. Pick its type: multiple choice, true or false, or short answer.
- For multiple choice, type the four options and select the radio button of the correct one. For true or false, select the correct side. For short answer, type the accepted answer, and separate alternatives with a vertical bar.
- Press Add question and repeat. To add many at once, press Paste questions and paste your list in the format shown.
- Choose your settings: shuffle the questions, shuffle the options of multiple choice questions, and set a timer in minutes if you want one. A timer of 0 means no timer.
- Press Play to take the quiz. Answer each question and submit to see your score and the questions you missed.
- To keep or share the quiz, press Export JSON. To use it on paper, press Printable, then Print quiz or Print answer key.

Privacy: how it works
- Your questions and answers are handled by code in your browser tab and are never sent to Ulkaa or anyone else. The quiz you are editing is saved automatically in your own browser storage on this device.
Tips
- Write one idea per question and make wrong options plausible, so the quiz tests understanding and not guessing.
- For short answers, list the common spellings and forms with a vertical bar, such as USA | United States | US.
- Export a JSON file after you finish a quiz you want to keep, because browser storage can be cleared.
- Switch on both shuffles before you play a quiz you wrote, so you learn the answers and not the order.
Frequently asked questions
Is it really free?
Yes. There is no price, no trial and no credit card. Ulkaa Tool does the work with your own device, so there is no server bill to pass on to you.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up and no login. Open the page and use it. An Ulkaa account is not needed for anything on this tool.
Does it run in my browser?
Yes. Your questions are processed by code running in your browser tab, on your own device.
Is my data uploaded?
No. Your questions are never sent to Ulkaa or to anyone else. You can check this yourself by watching the Network tab in your browser developer tools while you use the tool.
Is this the same as a flip-card flashcard app?
No. It is a typed-answer quiz. There is no card to flip, and no spaced repetition schedule.
How are typed answers checked?
The check ignores case, accents and punctuation and compares against each accepted answer you listed. Separate the accepted answers with a vertical bar.
What about answers with a typo?
A typo is marked wrong, because the check compares the text. Add the likely variants to the accepted answers when it matters.
